Helping you with Student Visa Applications
Our immigration lawyers provide expert guidance to international students seeking to study in the UK, as well as support for educational institutions. We believe that a diverse learning environment enriches the academic experience for all, and we are dedicated to helping international students navigate their student visa applications with confidence.
For colleges and universities, securing a Student Sponsor Licence is the first step, followed by obtaining Home Office recognition for individual courses. Our team is well-versed in assisting institutions with these requirements to facilitate a smooth application process for their international students.
Student visa applications can be complex and may sometimes lead to further Home Office interviews, especially if there are concerns about the applicant’s eligibility or intent. Often, these issues stem from minor errors, which is why seeking legal advice from the outset can make all the difference. Our immigration lawyers are here to help ensure your application is accurate and complete, saving you time and money by getting it right the first time.

What is a UK Student Visa?
A Student visa is an endorsement placed within a passport that allows the holder to come to or remain in the UK to study a specific degree at a specific university or college. The holder is permitted to live and study in the UK for the length of the course and can depend on any study already completed in the UK. The holder is also permitted to bring dependants with them if they are eligible.
With a student visa you can:
- Study at university that sponsors you as a student in a recognised course
- Work as a student union sabbatical officer
- Work depending on what you are studying and whether you are working in or out of term-time
- Stay in the UK for up to 5 years depending on your age and degree level
What are the requirements for a UK Student Visa?
To qualify for a UK Student Visa, you will need to:
- Be 16 years old or over*
- Provide evidence that you have been offered a place on a course by a licenced student sponsor
- Speak, read write and understand the English language
- Have enough money to pay for your course fees
- Have enough money to support yourself**
*For 16- and 17-year-olds wanting to study at an independent school in the UK, you may be eligible for a Child Student visa instead. Additionally, you will need to have consent from your parents to apply.
**For courses within London, you will need to have £1,334 per month, and for courses outside London, you will need £1,023 per month to support yourself. In some cases, you do not have to provide evidence of how you are going to support yourself, such as if you are on the list of countries under the ‘differential evidence requirement’ and other reasons.
