Immigration Solicitors for Student Visas

Our Student Visa Solicitors regularly advise international students on coming to or remaining in the UK to study. We believe that a diverse educational environment brings a rich and resourceful experience for all learners, which is why we passionately help international students with their student visa applications. We provide support to both students and educational institutions on the procedure, requirements, and applications.

For Colleges and Universities, you will need to first obtain a Student Sponsor Licence and then apply for individual courses to be recognised by the Home Office.

Student visa applications are often complicated and can sometimes require further interviews with the Home Office. This often happens if the Home Office feel that your application is not genuine, or you don’t quite meet the requirements. Generally, this comes down to an honest mistake made by the applicant, which is why is it always better to seek expert legal advice before you proceed. Getting the application done correctly the first time will save you money, which is why our immigration lawyers are here to help.

What is a Student Visa?

A Student visa is an endorsement placed within a passport that allows the holder to come to or remain in the UK to study a specific degree at a specific university or college. The holder is permitted to live and study in the UK for the length of the course and can depend on any study already completed in the UK. The holder is also permitted to bring dependants with them if they are eligible.

With a student visa you can:

  • Study at university that sponsors you as a student in a recognised course
  • Work as a student union sabbatical officer
  • Work depending on what you are studying and whether you are working in or out of term-time
  • Stay in the UK for up to 5 years depending on your age and degree level

What are the requirements for a Student Visa?

To qualify for a Student Visa, you will need to:

  • Be 16 years old or over*
  • Provide evidence that you have been offered a place on a course by a licenced student sponsor
  • Speak, read write and understand the English language
  • Have enough money to pay for your course fees
  • Have enough money to support yourself**

*For 16- and 17-year-olds wanting to study at an independent school in the UK, you may be eligible for a Child Student visa instead. Additionally, you will need to have consent from your parents to apply.

**For courses within London, you will need to have £1,334 per month, and for courses outside London, you will need £1,023 per month to support yourself. In some cases, you do not have to provide evidence of how you are going to support yourself, such as if you are on the list of countries under the ‘differential evidence requirement’ and other reasons.
